20CrMnTi Square Steel Processing

20CrMnTi square steel is a versatile low-alloy carburizing steel widely used in manufacturing high-strength, wear-resistant components like automotive gears, transmission shafts, and mechanical parts. Its processing involves a series of precise steps to optimize mechanical properties for demanding applications. The process begins with raw material inspection. Hot-rolled square billets of 20CrMnTi are tested for chemical composition—ensuring the right balance of carbon (0.17-0.23%), chromium (1.00-1.30%), manganese (0.80-1.10%), and titanium (0.04-0.10%)—and checked for surface defects such as cracks, slag inclusions, or unevenness. Only billets meeting industry standards proceed to the next stage. Next, the billets are heated in a continuous furnace to 1150-1200°C. This high temperature softens the steel, making it malleable for shaping. The heated billets then pass through a sequence of hot rolling mills. Each mill reduces the cross-section incrementally, forming the desired square dimensions while ensuring uniform thickness and straightness. The rolling process also refines the grain structure, enhancing overall strength. After rolling, the square steel undergoes controlled cooling—air cooling or slow furnace cooling—to prevent rapid temperature drops that cause cracking or residual stress. Surface treatment follows: pickling removes oxide scale from heating and rolling, while shot blasting cleans the surface and improves adhesion for subsequent heat treatment. Heat treatment is critical to unlocking 20CrMnTi’s performance. First, carburizing: the steel is heated in a carbon-rich gas atmosphere at 920-950°C for hours, diffusing carbon into the surface layer to 0.8-1.2% content. Next, quenching: rapid cooling in oil hardens the surface to a Rockwell hardness (HRC) of 58-62. Finally, tempering at 160-200°C reduces brittleness while retaining high surface hardness, keeping the core tough and ductile. Following heat treatment, precision machining shapes the square steel into components. Processes like turning, milling, or gear hobbing achieve tight dimensional tolerances. The final step is inspection: dimensional accuracy is verified with calipers and coordinate measuring machines; hardness is tested via Rockwell/Vickers testers; microstructure analysis confirms a martensitic surface and ferrite-pearlite core. This sequence ensures 20CrMnTi square steel meets high-load, wear-prone application requirements, making it a staple in industries where durability and performance are paramount.

20CrMnTi square steel is a high performance alloy structural steel specifically designed for carburizing applications that demand exceptional surface hardness, wear resistance, and core toughness. As a chromium manganese titanium alloy steel, 20CrMnTi square steel offers superior hardenability and fatigue strength compared with conventional carburizing steels, making it an ideal choice for high load transmission components and precision mechanical parts. The addition of titanium effectively refines the grain structure, enhances strength, and improves overall mechanical stability, ensuring consistent performance in demanding industrial environments. One of the most significant advantages of 20CrMnTi square steel is its outstanding carburizing and heat treatment performance. After carburizing, quenching, and tempering, the material achieves a hardened surface layer with excellent wear resistance while maintaining a tough and ductile core. This unique combination allows components to resist surface wear, pitting, and deformation under high stress conditions, significantly extending service life. As a result, 20CrMnTi square steel is widely used in the manufacturing of gears, shafts, sprockets, and other critical transmission parts. In addition to its mechanical properties, 20CrMnTi square steel exhibits excellent machinability and processing performance. It can be easily processed through cutting, drilling, milling, and CNC machining, enabling manufacturers to achieve high precision and consistency in finished products. The square shape provides structural advantages, including better alignment, stability, and ease of installation in various engineering applications. From a production perspective, 20CrMnTi square steel is manufactured using advanced hot rolling and cold drawing techniques, followed by strict heat treatment processes to optimize its microstructure and mechanical properties. It is available in a wide range of sizes and surface finishes to meet diverse industrial requirements. Customization options allow engineers and buyers to select the most suitable specifications for their projects. Due to its excellent strength, wear resistance, and reliability, 20CrMnTi square steel has become a preferred material in automotive, machinery, and heavy equipment industries. Its ability to perform under high load and high speed conditions makes it an essential material for modern engineering applications, delivering long term durability and cost effective performance.
